wardmw Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Hi all, I have just bought a Galxy 2.3 Ghia automatic :D, it's not quite three years old but didn't come with a handbook :( . I've figured out most of the buttons but on the left-hand control arm on the steering column there are things I don't understand. There's a switch that slides left and right, with the words "+-Res-Off" above it (or something like that). Also, on the side there is a button with "-" on it. I guess they are linked but I can't figure out what they do. Can someone help please? More questions will follow... |\/|artin Quote
Guest nimrod Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 You have cruise control :( look in the owners manual for how to use it Quote
wardmw Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 I would RTFM if I had one! I bought the car second hand and it didn't come with a manual (hence the question). Which brings up another question: Has anyone got a spare manual? Thanks for the answer though! |\/|artin Quote
Guest nimrod Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 See my reply to your new member post :( sorry I cant be more helpful but I dont have cruise control and my manual is in the glove box, which is out with the wife at the mother in laws! Quote
Guest nelse Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I've had to replace manuals before for Fords more than 3 years old and Ford have usually been able to supply them. Try your local fanchised dealer, the worst they can say is they cant help. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 These any good?...........owners manuals starting @ Quote
NikpV Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Off - CC OffOn - CC on (but not necessarily engaged)Res - Reset Button on end - Set With CC ON Press button on the end to set CC to current speed - Engaged. When engaged, pulling slide switch to RES will increase the set speed - car should accelerate to new speed. When engaged, pressing button on end will reduce set speed - car should decelerate to set speed. Note Brake pedal use will disengage CC - if its left 'ON' then pulling the slide switch to RES will engage the CC and set it to its last set speed. (Don't know if this is affected by turning to 'OFF' in the meantime. I don't know if this is okay but I drive with the Switch set to 'ON' all the time, this means that I can engage CC at will and usually disengage by pressing the brake pedal - lightly if trying to slow down for a distant hazard (change of speed limit etc) or more heavily if needed. Thoughts anybody. Quote
NikpV Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 PS - The SET/RESET +/- buttons don't seem very intuitive - but that may be me :( Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 There are at least two types of switches for the cruise control, but basic method of operation is the same. Slider switch for on/off/resume. Usually best to leave it in the "on" position. One type has a single switch on the end of the stalk that activates the cruise, or if held, slows the set speed. The other type has a rocker switch that can be used to increase or decrease the set speed. Not sure how you set the CC speed with this version though, as mine has the simple switch on the end of the stalk. Quote
NikpV Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Ah the RES means RESUME I assumed with SET it would be RESET, RESUME makes more sense - Probably should have RTFM :( :D Quote
iainkirk Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 On the multifunction steering wheel (like mine), there are On and Off toggles on the side of the steering wheel, with Res(ume)/+ and Set(-) buttons and a Can(cel) button on the centre, under the horn button. Quote
Taliska Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Dead good the multi-function steering wheel!!! Taliska Quote
HJT Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Pressing the clutch will also disengage the cruise control. Howard Quote
Dally Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I find the resume button really useful. If you've had to brake (or hit the clutch) or momentarily accelerated beyond the set speed, hitting resume brings your speed back to the set speed. Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Actually Dally without sounding like a Quote
Taliska Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 And just another one - if you pip the horn, it will disengage Cruise Control too!!! Taliska Quote
